I referenced the following photo of my uncle when he was in the Vietnamese military, on the South government side.

He was captured by the Northern Vietnamese government as a prisoner of war. When he was released, he immigrated to America by military plane. Once he established himself in the States and made a life + family for himself. In the early 2000s he began a process of sponsering his little sister’s (my mom) family to come to the U.S.; a process that would result in me immigrating to this foreign land.
To me, this story is one rooted in faith and the journey into the unknown.
